RM516L/517L DC/DC Modules
Nisshinbo's CMOS-based low-voltage step-down DC/DC modules achieve high efficiency by ultra-low quiescent current
Nisshinbo Micro Devices Inc. has launched the RM516/RM517 series, step-down variable frequency modulation (VFM ) control DC/DC modules with a built-in inductor which are optimized for use in industrial and consumer applications.
With the miniaturization of products, it is getting more difficult to place electronic components on a limited mounting area. Using a DC/DC converter in such a situation requires designers to pay attention to how they lay out wiring. Additionally, limitations in mounting area may make it impossible to construct a recommended pattern.
The RM516 and RM517 series are modules that contain the maximum output current of 100 mA or 300 mA step-down DC/DC switching regulators respectively, and a built-in inductor each. These products adopt a small and thin QFN2430-8 package with a size of 2.4 mm x 3.0 mm x 0.8 mm. They require only two external capacitors, which removes the necessity of complex wiring and enables designing a compact board with ease.
The output voltage range is from 0.3 V to 1.2 V (settable in 0.1 V step). The input voltage range is from 1.8 V to 5.5 V, and the current consumption at no load is 0.3 µA (typ.). These products contribute to the construction of IoT devices and long battery life by achieving low operating voltage, which is expected to continue to advance in the future, with ultra-low consumption.
The RM516 and RM517 have a package height of 0.8 mm by placing a thin inductor beside the IC, enabling board mounting with height restrictions. The built-in inductor simplifies board design by just placing input and output capacitors arbitrarily near the product. Therefore, these products contribute to solving customers' problems by reducing the time for selecting an inductor and concern about the products end of life.
The RM516/RM517 contribute to long battery life and small battery size by reducing total power consumption through the reduction of invalid power in the standby mode period by VFM control. Since the ICs and inductors contained in the RM516 series are manufactured at Nisshinbo Group's plants and these products are scheduled to be applicable for their product longevity program maintaining the state of supply for 10 years, they can be used for a long time without concern.
