HX3 supports many charging standards including USB IFs Battery Charge 1.2, the YD/T 1591 standard for dedicated USB charger, and Apple Charging Standard used for charging iPods, iPhones, and iPads. In addition to different charging standards, HX3 supports two unique charging modes. These are Ghost Charge which allows the HX3 to charge a portable device without the need for host connection on the upstream port, and ACA Dock that allows the HX3 to charge a USB OTG host, such as a smart phone when it is docked. An application of Ghost Charge is a notebook PC docking station, illustrated on the left side of this slide. The HX3 inside the docking station is able to detect and select the appropriate charging in the downstream port even if the notebook PC is not present in the dock. In ACA dock mode, the HX3 allows charging for both the upstream and downstream ports, providing power to the upstream, ACA-compatible OTG host, such as a docked smartphone and downstream USB peripheral connected to the dock.
