In fact, by utilizing KEMET’s ultra-stable X8R, circuit designers will find that their bulk capacitance needs decrease. In this example, a KEMET 0.1uF ultra-stable X8R cap (blue line) is compared to competitive 0.15uF and 0.22uF versions, (red and green lines respectively). Competitive X8R devices offer higher capacitance under minimal DC bias conditions (lower applied voltages), but drastically loose capacitance as application voltage is increased. By the time full bias (rated voltage) is applied, competitive X8R devices exhibit about half the effective capacitance of KEMET’s ultra-stable X8R.
