A photoreflector combines a light emitter and a light receiver in one package. When there is an object, the light receiving element detects the reflected light. When there is no object, no detection is made since there is no reflected light. As this shows, a photoreflector is a reflective type optical sensor that detects the presence of an object using light reflection.
