While MEMs gyros provide excellent short term response and accuracy, they do not provide a long term absolute reference. They are often used in conjunction with either GPS or magnetometers, which do have the long term absolute reference advantage but lack the shorter term dynamic response advantages of MEMs. The new ADIS16405 offers this functionality in an interface and footprint compatible package to the full iSensor IMU family. Over the same simple four wire SPI port, the ADIS16405 provides 3 axes of linear, rotational, and magnetometer outputs. With complete factory calibration also available on the ADIS16405, the implementation process for the user is as simple as supplying power and a serial interface.
