This circuit illustrates external component requirements for a typical application. Integration of key elements, such as the pass transistor, simplifies design by providing flexible step-down DC/DC converters that reduce the need for external component selection and sourcing to approximately ten parts. Additionally, compatibility with compact ceramic capacitors permits designers to minimize PCB layout area. A 0.1µF ceramic capacitor is needed on the BST line to supply the required voltage to the high side FET driver, and the output inductor and capacitor need to be sized based on the output voltage.
