In the examples shown on this slide, there are two voltage rails – V3.3V and V1.8V. As shown in old solution #1, both rails can be disabled at the same time and they will power down together. This will not meet power down sequencing needs. The second option is to disable first rail and then the second rail, but whether or not the first rail has returned to ground level before the second rail has started to de-rate is unknown. By using the TPS75005 which has an internal supervisor, as soon as the first rail is disabled it monitors and only then it disables the next rail when the first has fully shut down. This meets the processor needs for step down sequencing and illustrates the advantage of having an internal supervisor as a part of the solution.
