The choice of monolithic solution or gate driver is going to be mostly determined by the voltage and current. Below 50 V and 3 A, a monolithic solution can be used. In a monolithic device everything is in the same die and the bridges are directly connected with the MOS on the die. Above 50 V or 3 A, the monolithic technology does not satisfy the requirement. In that case, it is necessary to select gate drivers. High-voltage gate drivers in half-bridge configuration are available to 600 V, above that the customer will need to select from single gate drivers with isolation. The focus of this tutorial is on the half-bridge gate drivers.
