If a fourth pin is available, as it is for devices packaged in single and dual-channel SO8, and Power-SSO12 packages, a separate open-drain status pin switches LOW when the device junction reaches the over-temperature threshold, indicating an overload or short circuit condition. Single channel devices in SO8 and power SSO12 packages have a five terminal pin-out, allowing an external 5 V supply to power the internal logic and protection circuits which enables OFF-mode determination of open load or short circuit to ground fault conditions.
